Welcome to Nature's Year 2010

The United Nations declared 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity. It is a celebration of life on earth and of the value of biodiversity for our lives. The aim is that knowledge and consciousness about the problem will lead to measures that stop the impoverishment of the biodiversity. I’m not too convinced about this – just think of the Climate changes and the awareness and what is done to mitigate the effects. The United Nations global study, “Millennium Ecosystem Assessment” shows that the biodiversity deplete 100 to 1000 times faster today compared by 50 years ago. Unfortunately, however, everyone can do something to help to get awareness and inspire others, show good examples of what is done or can be done, and put pressure on the decisionmakers to protect the biodiversity. I think for instance the Swedish photographer, Mattias Klum, is doing an excellent work in this field and together with him lots of other photographers around the world. Tomorrow the 22:d of May the biodiversity is celebrated all over the world. On Sunday, the 24:th of May in Sweden we are celebrating the National Park day as a link in the Biodiversity year. So way not visit the nature this weekend and become captivated by the splendour in the nature.
